Dr. Robert Kitchen, Member of Parliament for Souris-Moose Mountain, was elected as Vice-Chair of the newly formed Subcommittee on Sports-Related Concussions in Canada of the Standing Committee on Health. The Subcommittee will develop recommendations on how to better protect athletes from concussions and make sport safer for youth in Canada.
“I am honoured to have been elected as Vice-Chair by my colleagues as we undertake a study on this very important issue,” said Kitchen.
“As someone who has personally experienced concussions as an athlete, and also dealt with them as a coach and health care professional, I know how devastating and life changing sustaining a concussion can be. I am hopeful that this subcommittee will be able to come up with effective and meaningful recommendations to assist the government in addressing the issue of sport-related concussions, especially among Canada’s youth,” concluded Kitchen.
